As an artist I find most of my inspiration in the natural world. I have always thought of myself as an organic artist, utilizing natural color and pattern in my abstract work. My love of clay, pottery, and sculptural materials of all kinds carries over into my collage and painting. As a student, I was influenced by Bert Keeney, then sculpture and pottery professor at Pittsburg State University. I have experimented with sculptural materials as varied as cast concrete and polystyrene; welded steel and paper mache'; fiberglass and clay. As a high school teacher I offered my students an advanced level of experience with these materials as well as more traditional media. I have exhibited my work locally and have received awards for sculpture and pottery. I recently retired after 27 years teaching the high school art program at Carl Junction High School. I maintain a studio at my home near Pittsburg, Kansas.
